Every spring in Chicago – this year it runs April 13-15 – the Audio Expo North America (AXPONA) revs up for thousands of high-end audio aficionados. It’s a big bunch of really cool-sounding gear – speakers, amps, turntables, pre-amps, digital streaming, digital converters, and accessories you may never have heard of, or can afford ($5,000 AC line cables, anyone?).
This year, Acoustic Geometry was asked to supply room treatments for the Merging Technologies demo room, and we sent along our extremely cool-looking Gold Curve Diffusors and a couple of Fabric-Wrapped absorber panels. Actually, the Curves are more of a copper-gold – the automotive paint we chose is a great bling-y color, whatever you call it. Four of our Medium Curves and two Small Curves well help the Merging demo room sound much better, which is the whole idea – they make excellent digital conversion and streaming products, and hearing these at their best requires a great-sounding room and speakers.
Thanks go to Michael Broughton, the acoustical consultant for Merging, and Fraser Jones, of Independent Audio, Merging Technologies’ US representative, for allowing us to showcase our phase-coherent cylindrical diffusors at this top-ranked audiophile show – AXPONA has been a high-end audio magnet in the Midwest for many years, and I wish I were going! We’ve been promised photos of the Merging demo room and will publish them as soon as we can. Meanwhile, if you’re in the neighborhood, go to the show and say hi to the Merging Technologies gang – their demo room is number 1540 at the Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel & Convention Center, Schaumburg, IL. Let us know what you think!
