We hear from Doug, a happy customer.
Doug, who very recently purchased (from Full Compass Systems in Madison, WI) and installed four Curve Diffusors (2 Medium, 2 Small) in his already-absorber-treated control / recording room, sent us this email:
“First Impressions of my AG’d [Acoustic-Geometry’d] room: Thanks John!!!
A giant thorn has been removed from my brain!
Doing research on acoustic treatment, a lot of folks that finally get or experience a well-treated room talk about how much the room superimposes its response characteristics on the playback from the speakers. They all state how they didn’t fully appreciate the impact of hearing [how] the room sound affects what they were assuming was just the sound coming from their speakers. It’s significant!
You really have to experience it to grasp the full depth of it.
I just played a bunch of my CDs. I played some bass-heavy stuff (Bela Fleck’s “UFO Tofu”) – which I thought was mixed with way too much low-end percussion and realized that it was my room that was making the music sound so horrible. LOL
Several CD’s that I thought had mixing shortcomings now sound much better / flatter across the frequency range and are actually now enjoyable to listen to.
I am really looking forward to playing with the low frequencies now that I can hear a new fertile ground of sculpt-able clarity. Mixing for Impact without mud now seems like it will be a breeze!
I even noticed some male vocal midrange smooth out that I thought may have been a poor mic choice.
At the same time, I discovered one mix I thought was fine was actually too light in the bass (no impact whatsoever). I’d bet dollars to donuts that mix was done in a room with bad acoustics!
After about an hour and several CDs, I was really comfortable and pleased with what I was hearing.
Since the walls have now “gone away”, I can hear more of the recording’s ambient detail (reverbs, sound amplitude modulations – i.e. background vocal vibrato) are all there now.
I wasn’t expecting it, but the sweet spot in my 12′ wide space is now huge. It goes from one side of the wall to the other and applies to seated and standing. I used to have to give up my chair if I wanted someone to hear what I was hearing.
Huge huge gains! I can’t wait to start mixing some of my tunes now.
Thanks Again (Again),
Doug
PS: I really have to give you credit for the 3-in-1 design and the build quality as well.”
Thank you, Doug! We love to hear people’s stories about improved room acoustics. Send us yours, it might make a great post.
